The Masood Entrepreneurship Centre (MEC) is the focal point for enterprise and entrepreneurship teaching, learning and start-up support at The University of Manchester. The core mission of MEC is to deliver “Entrepreneurship for All” – to make entrepreneurship education accessible to all, across all subjects and at all levels, to develop entrepreneurial capacities and mind-sets in our students, staff, and recent graduates. Established in 2000, the Centre is one of the UK’s leaders in the area of practitioner-based, applied enterprise education. Building upon our sustained track-record of growth and innovation, we have ambitious plans and aspirations for the future – to make entrepreneurship work for every student regardless of discipline, profession or career trajectory.
A university-wide centre, we provide free support and opportunities for all current students, recent graduates and staff, through an expansive and diverse range of on-curricular and co-curricular programmes and activities. In 2023/24, more than 2,300 students enrolled on credit-bearing MEC Taught Units, over 4,000 registered for MEC events and 54 businesses were launched.
