University Strategy:
A major component of the University of Sussex 2025 Strategic Framework – and soon-to-launch Sussex 2035 Strategy – is for students at the University to receive a transformative, high-quality education and learning experience that will allow them to create the future they want. Everything the University does is geared towards supporting Sussex students to develop the knowledge and skills that enable them to become “critical thinkers, entrepreneurs, commentators, citizens and activists”.
Extra-Curricular Entrepreneurship Support:
Part of the Careers Department, the Entrepreneurship Team at the University of Sussex reaches Sussex entrepreneurs through both extra-curricular and in-curricular provision. Since autumn 2020, a range of extra-curricular workshops and networking events (co-delivered with local entrepreneurs and business groups), competitions, funding opportunities and one-to-one sessions have been on offer. The team provides support for the ‘enterprise-curious’, through to those looking to take their idea to the next stage, and those already trading. Social enterprise is a strong focus, including through the provision of an annual Social Impact Prize and partnership with the University of Berkeley’s Big Ideas Contest, as well as inclusion; targeted provision, mentors and entrepreneurs-in-residence support measures to reach all students.
In-curricular Entrepreneurship Learning:
The Careers and Entrepreneurship Team partners with academic colleagues at Sussex to embed enterprise learning into a range of academic courses.
Masters Programme:
The Entrepreneurship and Innovation MSc teaches students to design, manage and grow new ventures. This is one of a selection of courses delivered by the EQUIS-accredited University of Sussex Business School. Combining world-class academic knowledge and opportunities to develop practical skills, students on the course benefit from collaboration between the academic team, the Sussex Innovation Centre, NatWest Accelerator and local organisations.
Sussex Innovation
Sussex Innovation provides serviced office space and business support to growing businesses in Sussex. Sussex Innovation members benefit from a range of support services, access to professional networks and affordable, serviced office space.
