The University of Central Lancashire’s reputation as an entrepreneurial university was acknowledged by it being named Best Entrepreneurial University of 2023 (Educate North) and its top ranking for student startups in the Northwest, as well as being among the top five in the UK. We recognize that enterprise encompasses more than just startups—it includes essential skills, work experience, and a value-adding mindset. Consequently, enterprise and entrepreneurship are woven into the fabric of the student experience at UCLan, both academically and through extracurricular activities. Our key initiatives include:
- Student Startups: A central service for UCLan students with ambitions to launch their own businesses.
- Enterprise Modules: Diverse curriculum modules that focus on startups and enterprise skills.
- Extracurricular Programs: Including Elevate, which nurtures an enterprising mindset and value-adding skills, and the Change Maker Programme, tailored for social entrepreneurs.
- Incubation Space: Cost-effective workspaces for UCLan alumni and local businesses, complete with meeting and event facilities.
- Centre for SME and Enterprise Development: Providing support to local and regional SMEs through the Help To Grow business support program, networking opportunities, good practice networks, and masterclasses.
