Oxford Brookes University boasts a dedicated extra-curricular Brookes Enterprise Support Team, encouraging current students and recent graduates of up to 7 years, to improve their employability and/or, consider business start-up. From an Enterprise Education perspective, the focus is on acquiring and developing transferable skills and attributes like project management, public speaking, creative thinking, and problem-solving. The team offers a range of workshops, masterclasses, and inspirational talks, to give the opportunity to participants to take the initiative and stand out from the crowd. The team is now based in the Oxford Brookes Enterprise Centre, which officially opened in September 2022.
Moving to Entrepreneurship Education, the team also offers a range of programmes, funding, and support for those considering freelancing, self-employment, and business start-up. The team includes in-house business start-up advisors, who design and deliver workshops, and offer 1:1 support to enable the development and realisation of start-up ideas. This is further supplemented by an established pool of expert mentors who may add value via their sector-specific knowledge, or specialist insights. These facilities, teams, and activities all sit within the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Enterprise and operate in addition to the curriculum based activities within the Faculties, and a couple of student societies dedicated to entrepreneurship and business.
Finally, the Enterprise Centre and its adjoining Bioinnovation Hub, are also the base for a growing Technology Transfer function and home to scaling and growing businesses, including the University’s own spin-outs. Oxford Brookes University is proud of its history of activity and support of Enterprise & Entrepreneurship Education for over 20 years.
