Leeds Beckett experts and Aggregate Industries reducing injury risk in the construction materials industry
A groundbreaking project by Leeds Beckett University and Aggregate Industries UK (AIUK) is reducing the risk of injuries and increasing productivity and profitability for AIUK – as well as informing best practice around safety in the UK construction materials industry.
The Safety Voice project was a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project, part-funded by the Government through Innovate UK. The project aimed to reduce transport-related risk across AIUK’s sites, using an innovative, proactive approach. The team have created a dynamic toolkit to reduce future incidents and fatalities.

Sussex: Entrepreneur-in-residence Programme
The University of Sussex is expanding its entrepreneur-in-residence programme in 2025. Launching in January, ‘In Residence’ will include non-founder specialists called ‘experts-in-residence’. The enhanced programme, prioritised to underrepresented student groups, will connect students to experienced business professionals for one-to-one mentorship and support. The volunteers, who are recruited by specialism and receive training, cover a wide range of areas – from business sectors and disciplines, to specific lived experiences and skills relevant to entrepreneurship.

UCL: Award for Excellence in Specialised Entrepreneurship Education
“The UCL School of Management has received the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centres (GCEC) Award for Excellence in Specialised Entrepreneurship Education. This award highlights the School’s dedication to impactful entrepreneurship education through the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs for Ukraine Lecture Series. This marks the third major recognition in 2024. In addition to this award, the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs for Ukraine Lecture Series was also honoured at the 2024 UK Enterprise Educator Awards, where it received both the People’s Choice Award and a “highly commended” distinction in the Enterprise for Good category. ARU: AREA Sparks Entrepreneurship at Writtle
This year, the Anglia Ruskin Enterprise Academy (AREA) has strengthened its presence at Writtle Campus following ARU’s merger. AREA initiatives like the Startup Clinic and Freelancers Fast-Start Programme have created tangible impact, with students successfully launching their freelance businesses. Additionally, AREA hosted an Equine Round Table and collaborated closely with academic staff to provide bespoke entrepreneurial and business support for students. Looking ahead, AREA is excited to expand its tailored support for Writtle students in the coming year, ensuring continued growth and success for the next generation of innovators.

Bath Spa University Christmas Markets 2024
Bath Spa University’s Careers and Employability graduate studio, “Emerge“, have used the festive season to support some of their most creative makers, artists, and designers in selling their work at the internationally renowned Bath Christmas Market. Emerge provides space for developing portfolio careers and creative enterprises, focusing on the connected importance of the 3 E’s, employability, enterprise, and entrepreneurship. Students and graduates were guided on planning product ranges, pricing, branding, marketing, and logistics. This initiative is one of many that connects emerging talent with Bath’s creative and cultural economy, strengthening ties between the University and the city. Leeds Beckett: Free start-up launchpad programme to boost economic growth in Leeds
Leeds-based start-up businesses will be empowered to boost their strategies to enter new markets, achieve growth, and build long-term sustainability, through a new partnership between Leeds Beckett University, the University of Leeds, L Marks and Leeds City Council.
The project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. The Leeds Go-to-Market Launchpad aims to support 30 start-ups based in Leeds by assisting them in refining their go-to-market strategies to effectively target and engage corporate customers and partners.
