Cross disciplinary connection and collaboration – strengths in diversity
Having an enterprise mind-set means being open to recognising opportunities and working out innovative ways to achieve goals. If your role is based ‘within’ a discipline rather than housed in a unit or service that delivers enterprise education then you may experience pulls in different directions (especially where accreditation may impact your discipline). How we embed and translate being enterprising in our teaching and research can be difficult to explain ‘in-discipline’ yet sometimes looking at it from a different discipline gives us perspective and added value. Benefits of enterprise interventions through education are often only recognised once graduates have accumulated lived experience and a context to apply this, so how can we as educators evidence our impact?
This session brings together ‘discipline-based’ academics with shared experience of collaborating and publishing. Offered in a fireside chat/talk-in format this session is hosted by four colleagues from Newcastle University, we will discuss how we collaborated and what we have learnt from each other’s disciplines. We will give an overview of how we began collaborations, and consider how we can collaborate and plan ahead to collate meaningful data and qualitative insights so colleagues are proactively ready for opportunities rather than reactively.
The session will bring participants together to identify new possibilities in collaboration. Given finances in FE and HE are under pressure, and face to face networking may be more difficult, this offers a valuable opportunity to meet new colleagues, form new partnerships and consider new opportunities, as well as build the confidence to approach other disciplines to learn from and collaborate with. If you are looking for inspiration, new collaborations or opportunities then bring a cuppa and join us in conversation online.
