EEUK Enterprise Exchange: Beyond the Campus: Lessons Learned from delivering EntEd outside of the University (Online)

10:00 am - 3:00 pm 06/12/2024

The event will showcase 4 distinct projects from the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) which involve delivering enterprise education outside of the typical university setting:

• An EERPF funded project exploring entrepreneurial approaches to climate education. This project, led by Lauren Caple (Senior Lecturer in Enterprise & Entrepreneurship/Team Coach) and Sophie Laggan (Research Fellow), involved delivering workshops and other engagement activities to young people, predominantly in a school setting, enabling them to explore their interests and aspirations in relation to sustainable jobs and social entrepreneurship.

• Project Zulu, a UWE-wide initiative which involves a group of undergraduate business and entrepreneurship students delivering enterprise education to high school students at a township in South Africa, under the guidance and support of Tom de Pentheny O’Kelly (Lecturer/Team Coach). Tom has delivered this project for two years in a row and will share key lessons learned and future plans to develop the project.

• A project led by Dr Jenna Pandeli (Associate Professor in Organisation Studies) which partnered with a local charity to deliver enterprise education and training to prison leavers, aimed at enhancing their employability skills. Jenna has led on the research of this project to understand the impact of the project on participants, and she will share key insights during the event.

• The Start Up School for Seniors, a collaborative research project with UWE Bristol, University of Huddersfield and University of Leeds. The project involves enterprise education delivery to participants over the age of 50, delivered by external serial entrepreneurs. Dr Selen Kars (Associate Professor in Organisation Studies at UWE Bristol) has collaborated with colleagues at the partner universities to conduct research with participants to understand the impact of the programme, focusing on their motivations, aspirations, and lived experience. Each project has involved utilising the skills and knowledge gained from developing enterprise education within a higher education setting, and applying this in contexts outside of the University. The projects have each brought unique challenges, opportunities and insights, and as a team we look to share these insights with EEUK Associates and engage in dialogue around your experiences/plans of delivering similar projects in contexts outside of higher education.

The event will provide the opportunity to hear about the unique challenges and key learning gained from each of these projects and allow participants to share and discuss their own ideas/experiences of applying enterprise education outside of a higher education context. The event will also provide an opportunity to network with other EEUK Associates through break-out room activities.
